……and Beyond

Marylou is an explorer. She is drawn to trying new things, new experiences, and new adventures. The “beyond” is her exploration into art. Marylou has played with photography since a young age, using different cameras, darkroom techniques, and eventually getting into Photoshop and Lightroom to see what she could turn those photos into. This lead to her experimenting with different mediums.

Lou-PhotographerEncaustic painting is an art form that took Marylou some time to master. It is a combination of having the right image, using the right paper and a lot of trial and error with different waxes, brushstrokes and layering techniques to accomplish the desired effect. You will notice in the Encaustic Gallery, though the base image is the same, different colors, textures, and even framing can give the piece an entirely unique feel.

Marylou’s jewelry came about when she was looking to use her photography in different ways. She discovered that she could print images onto Palmer Clay and the outcome would look like the image was etched in stone. Her Elephant Pendant was the first piece of jewelry she ever created. From there she began searching for beads and adornments that would work with these pendants. Her explorations lead her to buying beads, chains, and jewelry across the world. She also continued to play with Palmer Clay and learned how to manipulate pieces to look like stones and jewels. You will see in the Jewelry Gallery that many of Marylou’s pieces are in fact made with Palmer Clay.

As you journey through “And Beyond”, you will see the evolution of Marylou’s explorations into art. From tiles to greeting cards, Marylou is always looking at ways to push and stretch her photography to the next level.
